Built for Colorado: How Softopper Thrives in the Centennial State

Built for Colorado. Trusted everywhere

August 1st is Colorado Day, and for us at Softopper®, it’s more than just a date on the calendar—it’s a celebration of where we came from, what we stand for, and why our products perform the way they do. As a company founded and headquartered in Colorado for the past 25 years, our identity is deeply tied to the state’s rugged terrain, unpredictable weather, and adventurous spirit. Every Softopper® we build reflects that heritage.

In 2000, Softopper® was born out of a simple but powerful idea: create a truck bed cover that’s tough enough for Colorado’s harsh elements, yet versatile enough to keep up with the active lifestyle of its residents. Hard shells were heavy and cumbersome. Tonneau covers were limiting. So we set out to build something different—something better.

From snow-drenched mountain passes to remote desert trails, the Softopper® was designed to handle it all. Our founders knew that if a product could perform year after year in Colorado, it could be trusted anywhere.

Today, Softopper® remains headquartered in Colorado, just miles from the very trails and roads that inspired our first designs. And while we’ve expanded and built a passionate customer base all across the world, our commitment to Colorado hasn’t changed. This is still where we design, test, and refine our products. It’s where our team hikes, camps, off-roads, and snowboards. And it’s where we continue to draw inspiration for future innovations.

Our community of employees, customers, and partners reflects the spirit of the state: independent, adventurous, and always ready for the next challenge.

Designed to Keep Up With Colorado

All-Weather Durability

Colorado weather is notoriously unpredictable. You can start your day under clear skies and end it in a snowstorm, thunderstorm, or dust storm—sometimes all in the same weekend. That’s exactly why the Softopper® is built to handle it all.

At the core of its rugged performance is our automotive-grade convertible fabric, the same high-quality material trusted by top automakers like Jeep®, Ford®, and Chrysler®. This isn’t your average canvas—it features a woven construction with a UV-stabilized PVC coating, making it exceptionally water-resistant and resilient against harsh conditions.

Whether it’s intense UV rays at altitude, freezing sleet, high winds on exposed ridgelines, or heavy mountain rain, this fabric has been rigorously tested to resist fading, tearing, rot, and mildew. It’s designed to protect your gear and keep the elements out, no matter how fast the forecast changes.

Supporting it all is a lightweight, rust-proof aluminum frame—strong enough to handle trail vibrations and weather extremes, without ever worrying about corrosion. Paired together, this fabric and framework system delivers true all-season performance for the real-world conditions Colorado is known for.

And with individually serviceable components, every part of your Softopper®—from hinges to tension bows—can be replaced. That means you won’t have to scrap the entire unit just because one part wears out. This topper is built to last as long as your truck.

Flexible Design That Adapts to Colorado Life

In Colorado, your plans—and the weather—can change in a heartbeat. That’s why the Softopper® is built to adapt. Its fully retractable design gives you the freedom to go from full bed coverage to open cargo space in seconds. Just fold it down and secure it with the integrated straps—no tools, no hassle, no need to remove the unit.

Whether you’re tossing in bikes for a spontaneous ride, loading up lumber after a storm, or making room for camping gear, the Softopper® transforms your setup to fit the moment. It’s like having two trucks in one—a secure, covered bed when you need protection, and a wide-open hauler when you need volume.

Need quick access? Side and rear panels roll up and secure, giving you multiple entry points without removing the top. Grab tools from the side, load coolers through the back, or let some airflow in after a muddy trail day. It’s built for how you actually use your truck—on the jobsite, in the mountains, or out by the lake.

Lightweight, Tough, and Built to Last

Strength doesn’t have to mean bulk. While many soft tops rely on heavy steel frames and oversized hardware, Softopper® uses a rust-proof aluminum frame that keeps weight low without sacrificing durability. Most models average just 40–45 lbs, which means one person can install, fold, or remove the entire unit with ease.

That weight savings matters, especially when climbing steep grades or driving at elevation—it helps with fuel economy, handling, and ease of use. And because the structure resists rust and corrosion, your topper stays in top shape season after season.

Celebrating Our Roots—and the Roads They’ve Taken Us On

Softopper® has been part of thousands of Colorado stories. For 25 years, our tops have helped people protect their gear, adapt to unpredictable weather, and make the most of every mile.

What connects our community? The need for reliable, no-nonsense gear that performs when it matters most. Our customers don’t just drive their trucks—they depend on them. And for a quarter-century, they’ve depended on Softopper®.

Being Colorado-based isn’t just about geography. It shapes our mindset. It keeps us focused on adventure, adaptability, and authenticity. We chase the wild, we embrace the unexpected, and we build for the real world—not just the spec sheet.

So this Colorado Day, we raise our mugs, our tailgates, and our campfire stories to the state that shaped us—and to the incredible customers who have taken us further than we ever imagined.

Here’s to 25 years—and many more to come.
