No. The Softopper® mounts using custom C-clamps with no drilling required. The Exo Truck Bed Rack™ uses truck-specific mounting hardware, mounting plates are included based on your truck’s configuration, whether you have factory bed rails or not. Both products install clean with no permanent modifications to your truck.

Install the Exo Rack Truck Bed Rack™ first. Once the rack is mounted and secured to your truck, the Softopper® goes on. Following the install sequence in the included instructions makes the process straightforward from start to finish.

The Softopper® will not retract without needing to go through an extra step. You just take the folding frame off the pivot pins and lower it into the bed of the truck folding it forward, and then pop the folding frame back onto the pivot pins.

The Softopper’s bed rails, the channels that sit over your truck’s bed rails when running the Exo Truck Bed Rack™, come with pre-installed foam weather stripping. This foam molds around the Exo Truck Bed Rack’s bed rails and maintains a tight seal, so water protection holds up just as it would without the rack. If you notice any gaps after install, additional weather stripping is available to order, cut it to size and press it in place to close them up.
